Amber Fitts

First Grade Teacher

Mrs. Fitts holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. For nearly a decade, she worked in the nonprofit sector for the Fund for Public Interest Research and California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) in the fields of environmental advocacy and accounting. Drawn to teaching and the values of Waldorf education, she embarked upon her studies to become a Waldorf teacher, and by 2010 she had earned diplomas in Waldorf Education and Eurythmy from Rudolf Steiner College in Sacramento.

Mrs. Fitts has been teaching at Camellia since 2010 when she began as the First Grade Teacher for the Class of 2018, which she continued with through 8th Grade graduation. In the final year of the journey, she had a profoundly rewarding experience welcoming the Class of 2019 as part of a multi-age class during their 7th Grade year and continued with them through 8th Grade. Mrs. Fitts is thrilled to continue her journey at Camellia with the Class of 2027.

Mrs. Fitts is also a certified Pilates instructor who, before becoming a Waldorf teacher, taught adults in the Sacramento region and, more recently, to our very own students at Camellia during physical education blocks. Once upon a time, during high school, she taught gymnastics to children ages two and a half to fourteen years following a competitive career in rhythmic gymnastics.

Besides teaching and engaging in the preparation behind bringing the curriculum to life in the classroom, her passions are in the movement arts – yoga, eurythmy, modern dance, folk dance, and ballet – exploring creativity through the visual arts, and spending time in nature, whether hiking, biking, camping, backpacking, kayaking, or just reading a book along the shores of the American River.

Mrs. Fitts and her husband, Denis, cultivate an active interest in world travel and cultures, having ventured together through Thailand, the Yucatan, Ireland, Peru, Italy, and Switzerland, as well as domestically with particular emphasis on visiting America’s National Parks.

Mrs. Fitts joined Camellia’s faculty in 2010.
