2014 Kinder and Grades Summer Camps Grow and Thrive

by on August 16, 2014

This year’s Summer Camp at Camellia Waldorf School was an unqualified success! We enjoyed full enrollment of our Kinder Camp, led by Shannon Leigh, for all three sessions, and we also saw good attendance at our Grades Camp, led by Sidonie Ospina.
Summer_Camp_2014_01 Our younger Campers had great fun as we played together, with a relaxed rhythm that included a long outside playtime in the morning, then a short circle before we gathered for snack and then moved into our classroom. For the third session, we transformed the orchard into an outdoor classroom by moving in three picnic tables, where we did crafts and coloring, and erecting a teepee for dramatic play. Favorite activities included dying wool with natural materials, making dried-flower necklaces, and decorating flags with potato stamps. We looked forward to water-play and homemade popsicles every Friday.

Meanwhile, the newly-instated Grades Camp was bustling with tons of fun activities. For the first of the two Grades Camp sessions, campers documented the campus with watercolor sketchbooks, and explored colors with fun activities like tie dying fabrics and paper marbling. In the second session, tri-lingual Sidonie Ospina helped campers “visit” France, Italy and Spain, where they “traveled” by train, created passports and cut different pop-up cards for each country. They also sampled menus from each country on Friday afternoons. Great fun was had by all.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made this summer camp such a joyful success!
